Guardian Electrical have recently completed the fixed wire inspection and testing of the Biology Department at the University of York. The buildings serve all our teaching and research activities; from offices, and flexible learning spaces through to electron microscopy and laser laboratories, and horticulture glasshouses and plant growth rooms.

I will admit I wasn’t keen on the enormity of the project when it was first presented, knowing the complexity of scheduling shutdowns. However, hospitals manage to organise works, so I was sure we could work with our Estates Department and Guardian. Working with Louis Carnall, using his knowledge of similar projects, we were able to make a comprehensive and realistic schedule, notifying Biology staff and students in with plenty of warning to minimise disruption.

During the testing the two Guardian teams worked to schedule, respecting the working environments and were helpful when issues arose.

Louis and his team gave us confidence with their skills and knowledge to go ahead with a hugely complex project that put experimental materials, experiments and scientific equipment at risk, a job well done, thank you.
